“The camera experienced it differently,” – Trudeau on Brownface Picture

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is both apologizing and defending his appearance in brownface at a party in 2001.

Photos surfaced today of the Liberal leader from when he was a teacher at the private school West Point Grey Academy in British Columbia.

“While I regret the photo, and understand the deep hurt this must cause for many people, I would also like to point out that I believe the camera experienced the situation differently,” said Trudeau in a statement through the Liberal Party, who acknowledged it was indeed Trudeau in the photo.

Trudeau is expected to appear before media shortly to make further statements.
